Salute Digi pack process

Back cover- This started as an original photo that we took on set of one of the scenes, The obvious editing that we needed to do was darken it down to fit the theme of military, make the background darker and the blue of the globe stand out as it represents the theme of the music video.

First cut- Firstly I darkened up the background using PicMonkey, using the dusk filter and then using the original colour brush to bring back the blue of the globe as it was the only thing in the photo that doesn't have the filter. The text was then added, which at this point we only put 5 tracks on as we didn't notice the brief that said 8-12. The font chosen was also thin because we thought it looked querky and pencil drawn, however it is noticeable after feedback that it doesn't stand out or represent the chosen band who are pop artists, bold and cool.

Second cut- This time we added more tracks to fit the brief and also changed the colour of the text to white to try and make it stand out more. This was again obvious that it didn't suit the style of the band or the boldness of the front cover.

Third cut- This time we changed both the font and font colour after teacher feedback as it is more relevant to the bands style. We went for the "edo" filter on picmonkey which meant it looked like paint brush strokes and the yellow colour means that it is bold making the tracks stand out from the rest of the CD. The yellow is a different shade for each track giving it more texture. After research we also found that LittleMix actually uses this colour on some of their CDs. Finally we changed the arrangement of the tracks so that theres less empty space on the photo.

Final Cut-
Here we added a bar code that we made ourselves, The studio logo and also some acknowledgements at the bottom as it is a conventional aspect of a CD cover. This includes main people that were part of the tracks for example the artists and musicians as well as the recording studio for the vocals.

Digi pack development

The image was darkened in order to express the genre and message of the song/ music video.

Before

After

Before we started by adding the characters and                                                                                      then sizing the CD cover, this meant that the                                                                                           images looked stretched out and squashed. On our                                                                                   second attempt we sized the image and then added the characters which meant they appear normal.

Filming the stereotypical job roles & Close ups

During our music video we used a stereotypical job roles for women and as it develops we see a rebellion against them. On Wednesday 11th January we created an office set in the schools green screen room. This took around 10 minutes to set up and for this we used 2 blue separation screens, 2 exam tables put together, a computer chair, a laptop and accessories we could find around the room that you may find on a stereotypical office desk. Such as paperwork, candles, awards and plants. This was effective as we could use the blue boards to give the illusion of a boxed in office but it also blocks out the school setting so it looks professional.

This scene took around 15minutes to film and complete, we used the Canon 1300D with no tripod and just a table to keep it steady. To start with we did some test shots so we could all look and agree with the angles etc.

Close up voice over-

At the end of the music video there are lyrics in the style of a speech, therefore we came up with the idea that we would have an overlay of a close up doing this speech. We chose someone who wasn't presented in the full music video as she had nice teeth that would be presentable up close on screen. For this we used Alix Spencer who learnt the lyrics on the day and picked them up within 5 minutes. We played the music as she did it so she knew the ques and how to move her mouth. This meant that it was accurate during post production.

Influences on the music video

Not only was our music video inspired by the original Little Mix Salute piece but we also took inspiration from others such as Beyonce.

Throughout our research we used written articles such as Media Magazine where Beyonce represents the war woman. Although we had already thought of this idea before seeing this, it gave us the indication that it was an appropriate idea as big stars were doing it too. This character represents strength of women throughout time as well as role models in this day and age.

Symbolism-

Throughout the music video you can see symbols drawn on the characters hands. We used the symbol that represents women to show empowerment which reflects the whole idea of the music video.

This will also be used to create our print articles in order to express the message before people even see the music video.

We also used a glode with the female symbol all over it as a signifier of women all over the world are uniting as one to go against the stereotypes. However it can also be interpreted as all women around the world are equal and are all capable of anything they want to do.
